DH202201. Printed in c.1493 in Nuremberg. An original woodcut view of an English City, probably London, in the 15th Century for one of the most famous books, 'The Liber Chronicarum' or 'Nuremberg Chronicle' by Hartmann Schedel. Includes the Latin description below. Uncoloured, as issued. The verso shows woodcut illustrations of the Biblical characters King David and his sons, The King of Soloman and the Queen of Sheba. THIS IS THE EARLIEST-KNOWN PRINTED VIEW OF AN ENGLISH CITY. Size: 38cm x 23cm with good margins. Wohlgemut's apprentice at the time was the great print-maker Albrecht Durer who was most likely to have worked on some of the woodcuts. In near fine, bright, clean condition.
