May Day

May Day

By: Clare Curtis

'Spring brings a hive of activity to the allotment, with a sense of preparation and hope. Lettuce and cabbages are coming through, with poly tunnels and frames bursting with new plants. A woman sets seedlings, symbols of new life, while men dig and hoe, working the soil. Overhead, watchful crows soar and wheel over this patchwork of plots, one bird, perhaps ironically, has settled comfortably next to the home made bird scarers in the foreground. Nature has the upper hand, after all.'
