Sheet size: 66.1cm x 52.3cm with good, wide margins to the printed image. Date: circa 1828. Printed on Whatman paper with watermark for 1828. Original etching with early or original hand-colouring. Closed tear measuring 7cm to the lower margin below the impression mark and not afftecting the image. Very minor marks to the plate surface. Very minor creasing. In very good indeed condition overall with bright hand-colouring. Prideaux John Selby, known as the English Audubon, was born in 1788 and died in 1867. He produced these magnificent illustrations of British ornithology from specimens in his own collection. They were the first life-sized set of illustrations of British birds and are now scarce.
