Cheeky On The Beat Teddy Bear: A Brief Description

The Merrythought Cheeky on the Beat (code T6BEA) is a 6-inch “Micro Cheeky” collector’s bear styled as a classic British bobby. Produced as part of the T6 series of miniature Cheeky bears, it dates to the mid-1990s (circa 1996), when Merrythought issued a number of themed micro editions for the growing collector market. The “T6” indicates the 6-inch format, while “BEA” abbreviates the “Beat” theme.

Materials and Craftsmanship

In keeping with the Cheeky lineage, the bear has the characteristic rounded head, wide-set expression. The mohair is traditionally short-pile and neatly trimmed to suit the small scale, with a softly stuffed body that gives a pleasingly firm but squeezable feel. The muzzle is made from felt to show the hand-embroidered nose and inverted-Y mouth. Eyes are the usual glossy, domed type that give a bright, alert look appropriate to a uniformed character piece. The paw pads are made from felt, cut cleanly and stitched with care; the right foot carries the Merrythought label. A Merrythought label is also stitched into a back seam which states its number within the edition of 500.
