DESCRIPTION:

This creamware platter, designed by Mark Hearld to celebrate the major exhibition of British Folk Art at Tate Britain, is a stunning example of his artistic talent. The transfer-printed ceramic plate was made in Stoke-On-Trent by the Big Tomato Company. Hearld’s design for the Tate Shop was inspired by James William of Wrexham’s Patchwork Quilt. The platter is in very fine condition, still in its original tissue and its very slightly creased and rubbed original box. Scarce.

Artistic style and influences:

Mark Hearld is celebrated for his eclectic and vibrant artistic style, which combines collage, printmaking, and painting. His work often features detailed depictions of animals, birds, and rural scenes, inspired by the British countryside and traditional folklore. Heavily influenced by artists such as Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden, Hearld’s work is characterized by its use of bold colours, dynamic compositions, and a celebration of the natural world.
