Signed to the title page in pen by John Betjeman under his name. Includes some folding typescripts of poems loosely inserted which are inscribed ‘To Bej From Jim, 194?’. These poems mainly relate to the Middle East as Pennethorne Hughes had been Director of Broadcasting for the B.B.C in Cairo in the 1940s. These poems are not included in this collection. Betjeman wrote of him: ‘He was much loved by an intimate few, and much liked by very many. He seemed lonely’. Binding nice and tight, pages generally nice and clean with occasional slight foxing. A very good indeed copy in very good, slightly foxed dustwrapper.
