Presentation copy from the WWI poet and playwright John Drinkwater to his only daughter Penny: ‘Penny my darling, This book of lovely drawings is a Christmas (1934) present for you. Mr Dowd, who made them, has drawn a special one for you below, and Miss Spender, who wrote the stories, including one about you (page 17), has signed the book too. Your loving Daddy, John Drinkwater’. The original pencil drawing below the half title is of a child looking at a duck. Dowd and Spender have both signed the page in pencil as well. A near fine, tight, bright, clean copy in copy in good nicked, chipped and rubbed dustwrapper which has a small amount of loss to the spine. A wonderful inscribed association copy.
