Steiff – EAN 655357 – Teddy Bear Marian – 1997 – Limited Edition

A fine boxed Steiff Teddy Bear Marian White 44, catalogue number 655357, produced in 1997 as a limited edition for the German department stores Karstadt and Hertie. This example is numbered 616 from a limited edition of 1,500.

The bear is made in white mohair and dressed in an elaborate rose-pink costume with darker velvet-style bodice, matching pointed hat and long veil. The chest badge reads “Steiff Marian”, and the bear retains the Steiff button and ear tag. The original presentation box and certificate are also present.

Marian is one of Steiff’s more theatrical 1990s department-store exclusives, combining traditional Steiff teddy bear manufacture with a highly decorative costume. The size, complete outfit, certificate and original box make this a strong collector’s example, particularly for collectors of post-war and modern limited-edition Steiff bears.

Condition

Excellent condition overall. The white mohair is clean, bright and well presented, with only minimal signs of handling. The costume remains attractive and complete, with some natural creasing to the fabric and veil from storage and display. The Steiff button, ear tag and chest badge are present. The original certificate and box are included; the box shows light storage wear consistent with age. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
