The Father & Son set from Steiff, released in 2008 and made exclusively for Germany, is a paired limited edition featuring two bears of different sizes – a larger “Father” bear, 22 cm and a smaller “Son” bear, 14 cm – that are designed to complement one another.

Materials and Craftsmanship

Both bears are made from high-quality mohair, giving them a slightly lustrous yet soft finish. The fur is dense and plush, with enough rigidity to hold shape but still yielding to touch. The colouring is typically natural shades – reddish brown for Father and blond for Son. The faces of both bears are expressive in a classic teddy-bear way. They have hand-stitched noses in dark thread and a mouth that is understated, giving them a gentle, almost wistful expression. The eyes are glass, dark and gently rounded, inset so that they are safe yet striking, catching light to give life to the expression. The ears are proportioned well – rounded, slightly cupped to frame the face, and securely sewn on so that they don’t flop unnaturally. The paws have pads made of felt and there is detailed stitching of claws in a darker thread, giving definition to toes without being harsh. Father is fully jointed and can be posed standing or sitting.

As with all premium Steiff pieces, these bears feature the iconic gold-plated “Button in Ear”, a guarantee of authenticity and a nod to the company’s history. Each bear was individually numbered and came with a certificate of authenticity, presented in a gift box.
