A very large and impressive Steiff Teddy Bear Maximilian, EAN 667244, made in 2003 as a limited edition of 1,500 pieces exclusively for The Toy Shoppe, this example numbered 1087. At 80 cm / 32 inches tall, Maximilian is one of Steiff’s substantial collector’s bears, made in reddish blond mohair and based on the character of a large early-style Steiff teddy bear. This example retains its original Steiff gold-plated “Button in Ear” and white numbered tag, together with its original certificate and green Toy Shoppe Exclusive carrying bag.

A particularly strong display piece: large, characterful, fully jointed and with the desirable reddish blond mohair colour. The size gives the bear real presence, while the original certificate and bag make this a much more complete example than many surviving loose Steiff collector’s bears.

Condition

Very good to excellent overall condition. The reddish blond mohair is full, clean and attractive, with only light evidence of handling. The felt pads are clean and well preserved, with only minor surface marking visible on close inspection. The stitched features are intact, the glass eyes are bright, and the bear retains the Steiff button-in-ear and white limited-edition ear tag. The working growler is present. Supplied with original certificate and original Toy Shoppe Exclusive bag. The bag shows some light creasing and handling wear from storage, but remains a useful and desirable original accessory.
