A scarce original issue of Je Maintiendrai (“I Shall Maintain”), one of the principal clandestine newspapers of the Dutch Resistance during the German occupation of the Netherlands.

This issue, dated 2 December 1944, was produced during the final and most difficult months of the occupation, at a time when much of the western Netherlands was entering what would become known as the Hongerwinter (Hunger Winter) of 1944–45. The front-page article, Ons Volk in Nood (“Our People in Distress”), addresses the worsening plight of the Dutch population under German occupation and reflects the atmosphere of hardship, resistance, and expectation of liberation that characterised the final winter of the war.

The title Je Maintiendrai derives from the historic motto of the House of Orange and became one of the best-known underground publications of occupied Holland. Despite severe German censorship and the constant threat of arrest, imprisonment, or execution, resistance newspapers continued to circulate secretly throughout the Netherlands, providing uncensored news, political commentary, and encouragement to the civilian population.

Although not a Churchill publication, its inclusion within these collections reflects its significance as original wartime resistance material documenting the struggle against Nazi occupation.
