The stag forms the principal focal point of the design. Shown in profile with branching antlers and finely patterned coat detail, it stands among stylised trees and low woodland planting. Elsewhere, hounds run through the landscape and a pheasant appears in flight, introducing movement and extending the country and sporting theme around the full circumference of the shade.

The surrounding woodland is rendered through a combination of dark tree silhouettes, paler background forms and softly layered ground. The repeated branching structures create depth and rhythm, while the changing scale of the animals and vegetation gives the design a strong narrative quality.

The black and taupe colourway gives the lampshade a restrained, sophisticated appearance. Black provides definition and visual drama, while taupe softens the composition and makes it easy to place within both traditional and contemporary interiors.
