The Mochica Vase is closely associated with The Broken Ear (L’Oreille Cassée), one of the earliest Tintin adventures to explore themes of archaeology, museums, South American cultures and the international trade in rare artefacts. Throughout the Tintin series, Hergé frequently incorporated objects inspired by real historical and ethnographic collections, adding an unusual degree of authenticity and cultural depth to his storytelling.

This striking sculpture reproduces the distinctive anthropomorphic vessel in the form of a stylised human head, drawing inspiration from ancient Moche (Mochica) ceramic portrait vessels of Peru.
