Royal Albert Beatrix Potter – The Christmas Stocking Figurine – 1991

Description

An original Royal Albert figure depicting The Christmas Stocking, inspired by Beatrix Potter’s animal characters and produced under licence from Frederick Warne & Co.

The composition shows two brown mice seated together on a naturalistic base, busily working on a red-and-white striped Christmas stocking. One holds the stocking while the other appears to be sewing or attending to it, creating an unusually animated two-character tableau. The finely incised fur, delicately modelled paws and softly graduated brown colouring are characteristic of the Royal Albert Beatrix Potter range.

The model was designed by Martyn Alcock and issued by Royal Albert in 1991. The underside of this example explicitly records both the Frederick Warne copyright and the Royal Albert production date.

The underside carries the brown printed inscription:

The 1991 mark identifies this as an early Royal Albert production of the design. The figure is one of the more substantial and visually engaging pieces in the later Beatrix Potter ceramic series, combining two characters within a single seasonal composition.

A particularly appealing figure for both Beatrix Potter and Royal Albert collectors, with the Christmas subject giving it additional decorative appeal.

Condition

Very good condition. No obvious chips, cracks or restoration visible from inspection. There is some light expected rubbing and marking to the underside of the base consistent with age and previous display. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
