Historical Context:

The course at Pontefract Park was about two miles round in 1903 and was referred to as a ‘fourth-rate’ meeting by Bayles due to its gradients occurring at too short intervals and the poor quality of its ground. Thankfully this is no longer the case and the course has undergone major redevelopment over the years. This left-handed undulating oval has the distinction of being the longest continuous circuit in the country.
