UDAIPUR GUIDE MAP – Survey of India – Second Edition – 1989
Large official Survey of India folding guide map of Udaipur, issued at a scale of 1:20,000. Second edition, 1989, revised from surveys of 1985–86. Sheet size approximately 63.2 x 69.6 cm.
A detailed official urban map of Udaipur produced during the late twentieth century, recording the historic Rajasthani city during a period of expanding tourism and urban development. The map shows roads, railways, lakes, hills, reserved forests, public buildings, educational institutions, hotels, cinemas, government offices, temples and other places of interest.
Coverage includes the walled historic city and surrounding districts, together with Fateh Sagar, Pichola Lake, Swaroop Sagar, Goverdhan Sagar and adjoining hill and forest landscapes. Insets show routes from Udaipur and additional suburban and topographical detail. A substantial printed index lists banks, offices, educational institutions, hotels, localities and places of worship.
Produced by the Survey of India and printed at the Central Printing Office, Dehra Dun, the map provides a detailed record of Udaipur shortly before the major acceleration of international tourism and urban expansion during the 1990s and early twenty-first century.
Condition: Folding map complete, with expected fold lines, light creasing and minor handling wear. Some light age toning. Overall near fine.
Not unrecorded: WorldCat records editions of the Udaipur Guide Map, including later Survey of India issues, and institutional holdings of Survey of India guide maps include Udaipur examples. Scarce in commerce, particularly in large complete folding format.
A detailed official Survey of India city map of Udaipur, of interest for Indian cartography, Rajasthan regional history, urban development and the historical geography of one of India’s principal lake cities.
