Hermann Lord Nelson Memorial Bear 1805-2005 – UK Exclusive – No. 21/200

Description

A scarce Hermann-Spielwaren Lord Nelson Memorial Teddy Bear, produced in 2005 as a special UK Exclusive to commemorate the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson on 21 October 1805. This is the large limited-edition version, issued in only 200 examples for the UK, and is individually numbered No. 021/200. Made from golden-blond mohair, the bear is dressed in an elaborate interpretation of Nelson’s naval uniform, with a dark navy-blue coat enriched with gold-coloured braid and buttons, fringed epaulettes, red waistcoat, grey neckcloth, decorative medal-style ornament and black bicorne hat edged in gold braid.

The left foot pad is embroidered:

1805 – 2005
Lord Nelson
Memorial Bear
No. 021 / 200
UK – Exclusive

The original Hermann certificate/swing tag is still present and carries the matching individual number 21. It confirms the bear as a UK-exclusive Lord Nelson edition made from mohair, traditionally stuffed with excelsior and limited to 200 pieces. The bear is traditionally jointed and retains its original working growler. Hermann produced a number of Nelson-themed bears in 2005, but this large 200-piece UK Exclusive is notably scarcer than the smaller version issued in an edition of 500. A particularly striking commemorative bear with strong historical appeal, excellent display presence and the added desirability of its original numbered certificate.

Condition

Excellent condition. The mohair remains clean and full and the face has retained very good definition. The original costume is complete and presents extremely well, with only light age-related surface fluff and minor handling to the dark fabric. The embroidered foot inscription remains clear and the growler works correctly. The original individually numbered Hermann certificate/swing tag is present. Please refer to the photographs, which form an important part of the condition description.
