Original issue of La Voix des Belges, No. 11, dated 22 March 1942, an important clandestine Belgian Resistance newspaper produced and distributed during the German occupation of Belgium in the Second World War.

Founded in 1941, La Voix des Belges became one of the most significant underground newspapers published in occupied Belgium. Produced illegally under constant threat of arrest, imprisonment, and execution, the paper sought to counter German censorship, sustain civilian morale, encourage resistance, and preserve an independent Belgian voice during the occupation. Possession alone could place readers at considerable risk.

This eight-page issue contains a substantial range of political and social commentary, reflecting the concerns of occupied Belgium in early 1942. Articles address government, ministerial responsibility, municipal administration, collaboration, racism, the condition of occupied Europe, and the continuing struggle against German rule. Particularly notable is the final page, headed “Fonds de soutien”, recording donations and support for resistance activities, providing a remarkable contemporary insight into the financial and organisational networks underpinning clandestine opposition to the occupation.

It formed part of the collection of Robert Hastings, noted Churchill scholar and collector, before entering The Churchill Collection of Steve Forbes, publisher of Forbes magazine. Forbes assembled one of the most important private Churchill collections of modern times, encompassing not only Churchill material itself but also a broad range of wartime documents relating to resistance, occupation, propaganda, and the struggle against Nazi Germany. This provenance adds an additional layer of historical and collecting significance.
