Description

A fine Steiff 100 Years Jubilee Teddy Bear, EAN 671036, produced in 2002 to celebrate the centenary of the Steiff teddy bear, whose development at Giengen began in 1902.

This 27 cm anniversary bear is the attractive brass-coloured mohair version of the centenary design. Steiff produced EAN 671036 in a worldwide edition of 8,500 pieces, alongside related anniversary bears in light blond and cinnamon mohair. Contemporary specialist records confirm the model’s 27 cm size, mohair construction, five-way jointing and commemorative porcelain medallion.

The bear has a traditionally proportioned head with dark glass-type eyes, brown embroidered nose and mouth, rounded ears and pale felt paw pads. Around the neck is the original red ribbon carrying a porcelain medallion inscribed “100 Jahre Steiff Teddy Bären”.

This example is individually numbered 07321, with the number appearing on both the original white Steiff ear flag and accompanying certificate. The ear flag also identifies the model as Edition 2002, Jubil-Bär, Teddy 27.

It is accompanied by its Steiff centenary presentation box, original certificate/documentation and a period Daily Telegraph printed sheet associated with its original sale or promotion in Britain. The survival of this material gives the bear considerably more context than an unboxed example with only its ear tag.

An attractive commemorative Steiff with strong crossover appeal to collectors of both modern Steiff and teddy-bear centenary material.

Condition

Excellent condition. The brass-coloured mohair remains particularly clean and even, with strong colour and no significant thinning noted. Facial stitching, eyes and pale paw pads are well preserved.

The original ear button and numbered white Steiff flag remain attached, as does the original anniversary medallion and red ribbon. The certificate/documentation is also retained.

The accompanying Steiff presentation box shows some light storage and handling wear but remains sound. The Daily Telegraph printed material is present.
