Chad Valley Miniature Jointed Mohair Teddy Bear with Squeaker, c.1950s

A charming miniature Chad Valley teddy bear dating from the mid-twentieth century, retaining its original Chad Valley neck label and internal squeaker.

Standing approximately 26 cm in height, this attractive bear is fully jointed at the head, arms and legs and is covered in golden-brown mohair plush. The bear retains its original amber and black glass eyes, black stitched nose and mouth, and dark cloth paw pads. A Chad Valley cloth label remains present at the neck, reading “Hygienic Toys Made in England – The Chad Valley”.

The bear displays the appealing proportions and characterful expression associated with Chad Valley’s smaller post-war teddy bears. The presence of the internal squeaker adds further charm and collectability, surviving features often being absent or no longer functioning on comparable examples.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall with age-related wear consistent with use. Some thinning and wear to the mohair, particularly around the muzzle, head and extremities. Minor wear to the paw pads and seams. The Chad Valley arm label remains present and legible. The bear retains its glass eyes, stitched features and jointed construction. Internal squeaker present.
