Product Description

Hermann Henry VIII Special Edition Teddy Bear – No. 551/2450

Description

A highly decorative Hermann-Spielwaren Henry VIII Special Edition Teddy Bear, made in Germany and individually numbered 551 of a limited edition of 2,450 pieces.

The bear is made from golden mohair and dressed in an elaborate Tudor-style costume inspired by King Henry VIII of England (1491–1547; reigned 1509–1547). His outfit comprises a richly patterned brocade-style tunic with voluminous sleeves, a dark velvet-effect outer garment, multiple gold-coloured chains and a black hat trimmed with white feathering, creating a particularly strong display piece.

Further details include a miniature burgundy cloth-bound book entitled Henry VIII and his Six Wives, a Hermann chest medallion and embroidered foot pads recording both the monarch’s dates and the bear’s individual edition number.

The original Hermann certificate remains attached and confirms the model as Henry VIII – Special Edition, made from mohair and numbered 551/2450. The bear also retains its original internal growler, which is working correctly.

This is the earlier 2,450-piece Henry VIII issue and should not be confused with Hermann’s later 42 cm King Henry VIII produced as the first model in the company’s Famous Royalty series.

An appealing collector’s bear combining traditional Hermann manufacture with one of the company’s most recognisable historical character subjects.

Condition

Excellent condition. The mohair remains clean and well preserved, with very good facial definition. The Tudor costume is complete and presents extremely well, retaining the hat, decorative chains, richly patterned sleeves, outer garment and miniature book. There is only minor surface fluff and light handling consistent with careful display. The embroidered foot-pad inscriptions remain clear, the original numbered certificate is present and the growler works correctly.

Please refer to the photographs, which form an important part of the condition description.
