A handsome Hermann Teddy Original 75th Anniversary Teddy Bear, produced in Germany in 1986 to commemorate 75 years of the Hermann teddy-bear tradition, 1911–1986.

Standing approximately 46 cm high, this is a substantial traditional collector’s bear with warm golden-brown mohair, a neatly formed muzzle, black stitched nose and mouth, rounded ears and a particularly appealing, restrained expression. He wears his original red ribbon at the neck and retains the distinctive red Hermann Teddy Original chest seal together with the original anniversary paper swing tag and woven arm label.

The design deliberately looks back to the classic German teddy bears for which Hermann became known: broad head, substantial limbs, inset muzzle and traditional jointed construction rather than the more stylised character bears produced by the company in later decades.

The internal growler remains in working order, an important feature in a bear of this age and size.

Hermann Teddy Original bears were produced by the family firm associated with Bernhard Hermann and later based at Hirschaid in Bavaria. The company remains a separate concern from Hermann-Spielwaren of Coburg, despite the shared family name and intertwined early history. The Hermann Teddy Original marque itself became an important identifier for the Hirschaid firm’s traditional German-made collector bears.

A particularly attractive example of Hermann’s late twentieth-century traditional production, enhanced by its generous scale, surviving original identification tags and functioning growler.

Condition

Excellent condition for its age.

The mohair remains dense, clean and evenly coloured, with only very minor signs of handling. The facial features are well preserved and the foot pads remain clean.

The original red ribbon, Hermann chest seal, woven arm label and anniversary swing tag are all present. The paper tag shows light age-related handling and marking, as expected. This bear has its own knitted blue outfit – this is not a Hermann original.

The growler works correctly.
