Large official Survey of India folding guide map of Pune and Khadki, issued at a scale of 1:20,000. First edition, 1971. Original pictorial wrappers with illustration of Shivaji’s statue to the front cover. Sheet size approximately 96.7 x 75.8 cm.

A detailed official urban map of Pune and Khadki produced during the early post-Independence period, recording the city before the major late twentieth-century expansion of Pune as a major educational, industrial, military and technology centre. The map shows roads, railways, public buildings, cantonment areas, institutions, hills, rivers, parks, residential districts, clubs, hotels, cinemas, offices and other places of interest.

Khadki, formerly Kirkee, is of particular historical significance because of its military cantonment and its role within the wider development of Pune as a major administrative and defence centre. The map also records the city’s relation to the Mula and Mutha rivers and surrounding hill landscape.

Condition: Original wrappers present. Folding map complete, with expected fold lines, light creasing, minor handling wear and some age toning. Overall very good plus.

Institutionally recorded: Stanford holds a copy of the 1971 first edition and WorldCat records the title. Scarce in commerce, particularly in complete original folded form with wrappers.
