Product Description
Associated Press Wire Photograph – Cambodian Troops Recover Wounded Comrade after Ambush near Phnom Penh – July 1973
Description
An original Associated Press wire photograph dating from July 1973, depicting Cambodian government troops assisting a wounded comrade after an insurgent ambush during fighting south of Phnom Penh.
The accompanying caption identifies the scene as taking place approximately ten miles south of the Cambodian capital, during a period when Phnom Penh was coming under increasing pressure from insurgent forces. The image shows soldiers reaching up to help a wounded man into an armoured vehicle, creating a direct and immediate record of combat casualties during the Cambodian Civil War.
This is a strong battlefield image. Unlike more general refugee or aftermath photographs, it captures the physical consequences of fighting at close quarters. The composition is dynamic and crowded, with troops gathered around the wounded man in a scene of urgency and distress.
As an original Associated Press wire-service photograph, this was produced for newspaper transmission and publication. It survives from the photographic archive of the Shields Gazette, retaining its period caption and archive markings, giving it strong provenance as a working press image.

Good condition. Minor edge wear, creasing and handling marks consistent with newspaper archive use. Some corner creasing and surface wear. Original caption strip and Shields Gazette archive stamp present to the reverse.
