Product Description
Geological Survey of England and Wales / Ordnance Survey – Solid Edition Sheet 8: Flamborough & Humber – 1935 – Folding Map
London: Geological Survey of England and Wales / Edward Stanford Ltd., 1935.
Large folding geological map of the Flamborough and Humber region, published by the Geological Survey of England and Wales over the Ordnance Survey Second Edition revised map of 1914. Revised geological edition, 1935. Solid Edition, Sheet 8. One of 500 copies. Code: 500/35
An attractive and unusually well-preserved Geological Survey map covering the Yorkshire coast around Flamborough and the Humber approaches. The map combines Ordnance Survey topographical detail with Geological Survey colouring and notation, showing coastal formations, drift and solid geology, roads, settlements, railways, waterways and shoreline detail. The key at left identifies the geological colouring, while the coastal strip is presented with particular clarity against the largely blank expanse of the North Sea.
The sheet is dissected and laid on linen by Edward Stanford Ltd., retaining its original Stanford covers with printed title label. Such maps were intended for practical field use by geologists, engineers, surveyors, institutions and serious collectors, and complete examples in near fine condition are increasingly difficult to source.
Sheet size: 70 x 50.5 cm.
Condition: Near fine overall. Map clean, bright and sound, dissected onto linen as issued, with only minimal age toning and light handling wear. Original Stanford covers are near fine, with some light rubbing and minor marking to the printed label.
