Small creases and pressure marks affect the margins, with slight edge and corner wear. Contemporary black editorial border or crop lines appear along the upper and right-hand edges.

The original caption printed vertically beside the image is faint and partly cropped, but the date, Hoàng Liên Sơn location and essential account remain identifiable. The main photographic image is sharply focused and strongly contrasted, retaining excellent detail to the woman’s face, hands, clothing and possessions.
